Summary of Good Practice Recommendations
Artists and organisations have a responsibility to:
- embed direct community engagement and actively build community around the project 
- centre the rights of the community and collaborators 
- remove barriers to participation and engagement 
- embed community self-determination relating to all participation and input 
- seek relevant cultural permissions and advice 
- ensure that Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property principles are upheld, see First Nations 
- embed accessibility (see Access Rights for d/Deaf and Disabled People), and equity in representation (see Racial Equity and Representation) 
- meet obligations in the areas of insurance (see Insurance) and WHS (see Workplace Health and Safety) 
- define the scope, duration and project roles and responsibilities of the project 
- consider the authorship and intellectual property rights, see Intellectual Property 
- develop a clear social contract with participating community, complemented by best-practice legal obligations with regards to contracts 
- ensure the project is resourced appropriately and timelines and budgets reflect the complex and sometimes costly nature of community engaged practice 
- educate yourself and/or your organisation on the needs and experiences of the community you are engaging
